About this site

Dry Fork 001 is a dispersed camping site in the Dry Fork of the Belt Creek Basin within the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The U.S. Forest Service advises visitors to take precautions against heavy metal exposure due to the area's mining history in the former Barker Hughesville Mining District. Heavy metals such as arsenic, copper, zinc, cadmium, and lead may be present in soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, shorelines, and floodplain. The site is an EPA superfund cleanup area with abandoned mines.
