Cyrus Horse Camp
About this site
High desert horse camp at approximately 3,500 feet elevation on Crooked River National Grasslands/Ochoco National Forest land. Constructed in 1992 with volunteer help on the remnants of an old homestead and orchard near Haystack Reservoir. Facilities include vault outhouse, water for humans and horses, and stables. Open 24 hours/day. Provides access to multi-day trail explorations including Gray Butte, Cole, and Warner Trails, with connections to Smith Rock State Park trails and Wolf Tree Trail along the scenic Crooked River. Popular spring destination with good early-season footing and expansive desert vistas.
