Cypress Methodist Campground

Cypress Methodist Campground in the rural Dorchester County community of Ridgeville is a United Methodist revival camp with a heritage that dates back to 1794 during the Great Awakening religious movement. The site features 53 permanent tents or cabins made of rough-hewn lumber, generally 1½ stories with earthen floors, arranged in a rectangular shape. It continues to host annual week-long camp meetings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its association with Francis Asbury and long use as a revival site. Additional Info: The churchyard includes graves of early settlers.
