The lower tier includes vehicle-accessible campsites and a loop adjacent to the road suitable for camper vehicles. The first portion of the road is passable by vehicles pulling campers or trailers with multiple pull-off areas for camping. High-clearance vehicles recommended for lower portion; four-wheel drive required for upper tier access to Highland Mary Lakes Trailhead. Area provides views of the San Juan Mountains, old mining camps, and waterfalls.
