CHILDS GLACIER REC SITE, IS, CG (Campground) Additional Info: Childs Glacier Recreation Area and Campground is a remote, tent-only campground in Chugach National Forest nestled 300 feet from the Copper River and near the face of Childs Glacier. The campground features 11 maintained campsites with picnic tables, tent pads, and campfire rings. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water via hand pumps, a large covered viewing platform, pavilion, and interpretive boards. The site is surrounded by tall cottonwoods with an understory of alder, willow, devil's club, and fern. Access is only by boat or air charter from Cordova due to washed-out sections of the Copper River Highway at miles 36 and 44. The campground is open May 1 through October 31 annually.
