ATTENTION: This recreation site is within the declared title lands of the Tsilhqot'in and Xeni Gwet'in First Nation. Visitors are reminded to check www.xenigwetin.net for updates on access to Title Lands. The Tsilhqot'in name for this place is Tsanlgen, meaning "dried beaver (skin)", and Chaunigan is likely an anglicization of Tsalngen (source: Tsilhqot'in National Government). Chaunigan Lake Recreation Site provides scenic views of the Coast Mountains in the distance, including Mount Tatlow (Ts?yl-os). The lake is a popular destination for fishing and back-country enthusiasts. Rainbow trout in the 1.5 to 2 pound size are said to be fairly plentiful in the lake.
