About this site

Cayo Costa State Park is a remote barrier island state park located 4 nautical miles west of Pine Island in Charlotte Harbor, Florida. The 2,436-acre park protects one of Florida's last undeveloped barrier islands, featuring nearly 9 miles of pristine Gulf of Mexico beaches, pine forests, oak-palm hammocks, and mangrove swamps. The campground offers primitive tent camping and rustic cabins accessible only by private boat, kayak, or ferry service. Tent sites vary in size and privacy, with some sites positioned away from the main camping area and accommodating up to 8 people per site. Primitive cabins sleep up to 6 people with three bunk beds and a table but no electricity or modern amenities. Both tent and cabin campers have access to centrally located restrooms with cold water showers, charcoal grills, and picnic tables. The park features 9 miles of undeveloped shoreline for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, fishing, and bird-watching, with nature trails throughout. Reservations are required. No campfires are currently allowed. There is no electricity, drinking water, or stores on the island. Generators are not permitted.
