CAPILLA PEAK (Campground) Additional Info: Capilla Peak Campground is an 8-unit site located at 9,200 feet in the Manzano Mountains within Cibola National Forest. The campground features unique camping structures and offers exceptional panoramic views of the Manzano Mountain Wilderness, Rio Grande Valley, and Estancia Valley. All campsites are nonelectric and very exposed; inclement weather is common at this high elevation. The campground provides access to Manzano Mountain Wilderness, the North Crest Trail system, and Hawkwatch's raptor counting station. No designated parking spurs are available and the site is not suitable for large trailers or RVs. Potable water is not available. Restrooms and picnic tables are available. The campground operates as a mix of first-come, first-served and reservable sites from April through November. A separate group picnic pavilion is available for day use reservation. Access is via Forest Road 245, which requires high-clearance vehicles and may be subject to temporary winter closures.
