Cape Lookout National Seashore beach camping

Primitive beach camping is available on the barrier islands of Cape Lookout National Seashore, accessible only by ferry or private boat. Vehicle camping with 4WD is permitted on North and South Core Banks beaches; only tent camping on Shackleford Banks and the western end of South Core Banks. No designated campsites; camp among dunes behind the beach. Free camping permits required, available at visitor centers or self-serve stations. Limit 14 consecutive days. Bring all supplies; pack out trash. Seasonal restrooms and showers on North Core Banks; dump station available. No drinking water or trash cans on islands. Additional Info: Vehicle and tent camping allowed on 22 miles of North Core Banks beach. All vehicles must stay on beach or designated pull-outs.
