About this site

Canyon Creek Cabin is a historic single-cabin rental located in Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, approximately 13 miles west of Melrose, Montana, at an elevation of 7,300 feet. Built in the 1930s as a USFS guard station, the cabin sits at the base of a sheer cliff in the eastern Pioneer Mountain Range, surrounded by forested terrain and mountain views. The cabin features bunk beds sleeping four people, a fold-down table, folding chairs, basic kitchen and eating utensils, and a wood-burning stove. The facility has no electricity or potable water; guests must bring their own amenities. Restrooms and a fire pit are available. The cabin is accessible by four-wheel drive or high-clearance vehicle depending on road conditions; winter access (December–April) may require snowmobiles, cross-country skis, or snowshoes for 6 or more miles. The area is located in the middle of an old mining district with several historic sites nearby (charcoal kilns, cemeteries, old buildings) accessible by foot or bike. Abundant trails in the area offer wildlife viewing opportunities and access to the scenic Pioneer Mountains. Nearby attractions include the Big Hole National Battlefield. Reservations are required and available through Recreation.gov. Available year-round.
