Additional Info: Canal Island Floating Platform is the designated campsite on the Canal Island overnight canoe trail (2 days/1 night, 11 +/- miles). The trail begins at French’s Lake Coastal Access Kiosk on the Forever Wild Land Trust’s Clearwater Tract, north of Stockton, AL. Paddle down Globe Creek into Big Beaver Creek to Little Lake and the platform on the east side of Canal Island. Day two returns via Big Beaver Creek to Tensaw Lake at Hubbard’s Landing. Habitats include bottomland hardwood swamp, flowing creeks, side channel sloughs, and backwaters.
