Bugaboo Creek
About this site
Backcountry camping in Bugaboo Provincial Park, located in the Purcell Mountains of southeastern British Columbia. The area is accessed via the Conrad Kain Hut Trail, a steep 4.6km hike from the parking lot (3-4 hours). Two established campgrounds are available: Applebee Dome Campground at 2,465m elevation on an exposed rock slab with alpine views, and Boulder Campground, a forested site with better weather protection located 250m downhill from the hut. Both operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. A backcountry permit ($10 per person per night) is required from July 1 to October 2. Facilities include pit toilets, water sources, and tent pads. The area is known for granite spires, Bugaboo Glacier, and alpine lakes. Recommended season is mid-July to late August.
