Buffalo Gap National Grassland spans nearly 600,000 acres of prairie and grassland in southwestern South Dakota, open to free dispersed camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, and off-roading. No backcountry permit is required. The area features stunning Badlands vistas and is ideal for do-it-yourself recreation. French Creek Campground, 10 miles east of Fairburn, is the only developed campground.
