About this site

Bobcat-Houlihan Campground is a primitive Bureau of Land Management facility situated at the trailhead of the Bobcat-Houlihan Trail in Park County, Wyoming. Located deep in the South Fork Shoshone River Valley, the campground sits surrounded by the magnificent Absaroka Range, offering stunning mountain scenery and access to backcountry trails. The campground features basic amenities including interpretive kiosks, horse trailer parking, horse hitching rails, bear-proof food storage boxes, and vault toilet facilities. The site is particularly popular with equestrians due to its horse-friendly infrastructure and trail access. No water, electrical hookups, or other modern amenities are available, making this a true primitive camping experience. This area is active grizzly bear habitat, and campers must practice proper food storage and maintain clean campsites. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with possibilities of seeing deer, moose, elk, black bears, grizzly bears, bald eagles, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system, and access can be limited by seasonal road conditions and snow during winter months.
