About this site
Generally open May to October as weather and conditions allow. Accessible from U.S. Route 50. In open setting with pinyon-juniper forest at Bob Scott Summit. Hunting for deer and elk in season. Fishing at Birch Creek, 8 miles from campground. Additional Info: USFS-managed campground at 7,200 feet elevation with 9 individual sites ($10/night) and 1 group site ($25/night). All sites first-come, first-served. Campsites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet and include picnic tables and fire rings. Flush toilets available; no potable water. Dogs welcome on leash. Located six miles east of Austin on Historic U.S. Highway 50 (the Loneliest Road in America). Campground underwent renovations in 2025 to modernize facilities and improve accessibility.
