Black Mountain Yellow Post Site #3 is a primitive, free camping area in San Bernardino National Forest. Each site accommodates up to 8 people and 2 vehicles and is restricted to first-come, first-served camping with a 14-day limit. Sites feature only a fire ring and picnic table; there is no water, restrooms, or trash containers. Site #3 is noted as the most isolated and peaceful of the six Yellow Post Sites. Access is via Black Mountain Road 4S01 (a rough dirt road north of Idyllwild off Highway 243) requiring high-clearance or 4WD vehicles; trailers and RVs are not suitable. Campfire permits are required for any fire use. Dogs must be leashed (6 feet maximum) or under physical control.
