This rustic campground is located on the north side of Black Lake, Michigan’s seventh largest inland lake. The campground is surrounded by rolling hills and lush hardwood forests. ORVs are permitted in the campground and allow for easy access to nearby ORV routes. Nearby Black Lake Lower state forest campground has a boat launch, beach access and a picnic area with charcoal grills and picnic tables. In the lower unit, use of motor vehicles (other than street-licensed vehicles such as cars, trucks or street legal motorcycles) is not allowed. ORVs must remain on trailers if in the lower unit. The upper unit is considered an ORV campground and is open to ORV use only for entering and leaving the campground to access the trail. There are 35 sites suitable for tents and both small and large trailers. Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from a hand-pump well. The campground is located 11 miles north of Onaway via M-211, County Road 489, Black Mt. Road and Doriva Beach Road. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations.
