About this site
Black Gap WMA features 26 primitive hunting campsites and 25 fishing shelters throughout the 103,000-acre area bordering Big Bend National Park and the Rio Grande. Most hunting campsites have a picnic table, fire ring/grill, and shade shelter; fishing shelters have fire ring/grill and shade shelter. All sites are primitive: bring your own water and pack out trash. The only restroom is a composting toilet at headquarters (one accessible campsite there). Camping only at designated sites; registration required at headquarters. Open year-round except special permit hunts; access restrictions March 1-August 31 to Maravillas/Horse Canyons, Rio Grande, and headquarters. Phone: (432) 376-2216.
