About this site

Black Gap WMA FC 12-13 is one of 26 designated primitive hunting campsites in Black Gap Wildlife Management Area, located in the Chihuahuan Desert near Big Bend National Park. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations. Bring your own water as potable water is not available; pack out all trash. Registration is required at headquarters. Visitors must have a Texas public hunting permit or limited use permit. Open year-round except closed for special permit hunts; access restrictions apply March 1 to August 31 in certain areas like Maravillas and Horse Canyons, Rio Grande, and headquarters campsite. Practice Leave No Trace principles. Caution for venomous snakes, insects, mountain lions, black bears, and flash flooding. Additional Info: Most sites have a picnic table, fire ring/grill, and shade shelter. Campfires only in provided fire rings using dead and down wood. Composting toilet at headquarters campsite (wheelchair accessible).
