Benchmark Campground
About this site
Benchmark Campground is located approximately 30 miles west of Augusta, Montana in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest at an elevation of 5,300 feet. The campground sits in the Sawtooth Range of the Rocky Mountain Front and features 25 campsites in a wooded area with conifers and aspen. Sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and spacious parking aprons suitable for RVs and horse trailers (maximum trailer length 35 feet). The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a nightly fee of $10 per site and $5 per additional vehicle. Vault toilets are available, but potable water is not; campers should bring their own water supply. The campground is a primary access point to the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex and attracts backpackers, horseback riders, and anglers. Three spurs include feeding troughs for horses at most sites. Bears frequently use the area; mandatory food storage in approved containers is strictly enforced. Pets are allowed on a leash. The campground is open seasonally from summer through fall with a 14-day stay limit.
