Jewell Bay Backcountry Campground is situated on the shores of Barrier Lake in Kananaskis. It is both an equestrian campground and a designated backcountry campground. The campground features 7 tenting sites, most perched overlooking Jewell Bay and Barrier Lake. Amenities include a formal eating area with bear lockers, picnic tables, a firepit with benches, and a rocketship-style outhouse. A hitching area for horses is available. The campground is closed annually from April 14 to June 16 for elk movement in the spring. Access is by hiking 3.9 km from the Barrier Dam Day Use Area on Highway 40, by boat (1.5 km paddle across Barrier Lake from the Barrier Lake Day Use boat launch), or by hiking the Quaite Valley to Jewell Pass trail (9.4 km).
