About this site
Baptism River Campground is located within Tettegouche State Park on Minnesota's North Shore, approximately 1.5 miles from Lake Superior. The campground offers 34 single-family campsites (22 with electrical hookups), plus 5 backpack sites, 6 walk-in sites, 13 cart-in sites, 2 group sites, and 5 kayak sites. Sites are secluded and well-screened with gravel parking spurs, tables, grills, and fire rings. Facilities include modern restrooms with showers, flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station (limited in winter). The campground accommodates RVs up to 69 feet at select sites with electric hookups. Eight sites remain available in winter. The campground serves as a trailhead for multiple hiking routes, including paths to High Falls and Two Step Falls, with additional trails leading to Lake Superior's shoreline. Water access includes the Baptism River and nearby Lax Lake (about five miles inland) for fishing. Firewood typically requires purchase from roadside vendors. The campground lacks an on-site dump station, but one operates in Silver Bay for donations.
