Overview Badger’s Den Campground provides a Lake Tahoe and Camp Richardson Resort experience unlike any other. The campground has 66 single standard tent sites and 18 standard double tent sites. Each campsite has a bear-proof food locker, picnic table, and fire pit with cooking grate. I grew up going to Camp Richardson in the summer in the 90s and 00s. It was a magical time and sparked my love for the outdoors. I haven’t been back in 20 years, but I remember it being a family friendly place with spacious sites for multiple tents, fire rings and picnic tables, several clean bathrooms and showers, and a short trail from the tents down to the beach or “into town” for ice cream. Black bears came into camp almost every night looking for food. They were very good at opening locked cars to grab a cooler from inside without smashing windows. You would know their location based on where other campers were banging pots and pans to try and scare them away. It definitely taught me to never leave food or toothpaste in my tent in bear country! I heard that the mother bears would teach their babies how to open the bear bins with their smaller paws to get to the trash cans, but I never saw it myself. I’m not sure I’d choose Camp Richardson as an adult, but only because I prefer fewer people around my site. For a family starting to camp together or casual camper who wants an easy drive-in but tent-only experience, I’m glad to see it’s still around. I will be forever grateful for spending august nights by the fire, roasting marshmallows and reading the latest Harry Potter book.
