Ausable Point Campground
About this site
Ausable Point Campground sits within the Ausable Point State Forest, managed by New York's Department of Environmental Conservation. This established campground operates from May through October, occupying a peninsula where the Ausable River meets Lake Champlain. The location draws kite surfers, kayakers, and anglers who take advantage of the water access from multiple angles. River sites and beach sites offer the most desirable camping spots. Sites along the water provide direct access for launching watercraft, while inland sites offer more shade and privacy. The campground accommodates RVs up to 35 feet with electric, water, and sewer hookups available on select sites. The campground features two beach areas—a public beach near the entrance and a smaller beach closer to the campsites. Ten shower facilities serve the entire campground. Water spigots are distributed throughout for those without hookups. Evening services include ice and firewood sales from a truck that announces its arrival with a bell. Ausable Point Campground protrudes from Route 9 into Lake Champlain and offers a shoreline comprised of natural sand and a gentle slope from many campsites. It borders a wildlife management area that offers a hiking trail, as well as water access for canoeists and sea kayakers to explore.
