Anvil Camp
About this site
Anvil Camp is the most popular camping area along the Shepherd Pass Trail in Inyo National Forest, providing access to water through Shepherd Creek. It is a backpacking site reached via a strenuous ~7.3 mile one-way hike from the trailhead near Independence, CA, with ~4,554 ft elevation gain. Camping with stock and grazing are prohibited at Anvil Camp. Campfires are prohibited at Anvil Camp. Human waste must be buried 6-8 inches deep in soil, at least 100 feet from campsites, trails, and water. Additional Info: Managed by Inyo National Forest, Mt Whitney Ranger District.
