Animas Forks is a free, first-come-first-served camping area located in the San Juan Mountains at approximately 11,000 feet elevation near Silverton, Colorado. The site is accessible by high-clearance 4WD vehicle via the Alpine Loop road system. Basic amenities include restrooms, picnic tables, and fire rings, but no hookups for electricity, water, or sewer are available. The area is best visited from May through October. Campers should be prepared for high altitude conditions and sudden weather changes.
