About this site

This camp is located 2/10 of a mile south of the Alamar Saddle on a side loop of the Buckhorn Road (9N11). Alamar Camp is located at the junction of the Buckhorn and Alamar Trail (26W06), and is not far from the peak of Big Pine Mountain. This camp is the site of the old Alamar Guard Station, built in 1937 and razed in the 1960's. This is a great place to watch the sunrise over the Los Padres Forest. It can also be a very windy place to camp due to it's location on the saddle. Additional Info: Trail camp in San Rafael Wilderness at 5650 feet elevation. No water at camp; nearest source half mile away at Upper Bear Camp creek. 14 day stay limit.
