Afton State Park's Backpack Campground offers 27 rustic backpacking sites accessible by a challenging 0.75-mile uphill hike from the parking area through switchbacks to the ridge-top. Sites include picnic tables and fire pits in open or wooded areas. Amenities include solar-powered drinking water pumps, vault toilets, and a self-serve firewood station year-round. Trails lead to a swimming beach on the St. Croix River.
