A.T. WALNUT MOUNTAIN SHELTER (Camping Area) Additional Info: Walnut Mountain Shelter is a three-sided Adirondack-style shelter on the Appalachian Trail in Cherokee National Forest, built in 1938 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It has capacity for 5-6 people, a tin roof, fire pit, privy 50 yards away, and water source on a side trail. The shelter is directly on or steps off the AT.
